Guided tour of Coutances

October 16

Most of us will have visited Coutances from time to time for shopping, to have a meal or a snack in one of its restaurants or cafes, visit the cinema or the theatre, go to the jazz festival or attend a course at Les Unelles.

For the size of the city, home to 8,501 people in 2017 and, remarkably, as many as 8,507 over 200 years ago in 1800, Coutances offers a surprisingly wide range of activities particularly in the field of art and culture. Its 15 historic sacred monuments alone still bear witness to the fact that Coutances has been a cultural centre since the Middle Ages and so it is not unexpected to find that Coutances features in works by great French writers such as Victor Hugo, Marcel Proust and Michel Houellebecq.

Discover more about the past and present Coutances and join us on a guided visit of Coutances on Friday, 16th October 2020. A walking tour through the streets of Coutances old town noting the places of historical interest and pausing at some of the “hotels particuliers”, the large private town houses.

The tour will be led by an English speaking guide from the PAHC (Pays d’art et d’histoire du Coutançais).
