..The Day We Went to Vire – Tuesday 17th July

Didn’t we have a lovely time the day we went to Vire!

Although it was an early start, 14 of us met up at Mobsby’s Brewery for a 10.30am tour.

We were welcomed to this lovely little brewery by owners Steve and Alicja Mobsby with a coffee and a biscuit!

Steve explained the processes he uses to make the four beers (he does it all himself!) and mentioned a few of the places they visit to sell the beers – including a night market at Regneville every Friday evening in July and August which none of us knew about!

The tasting session at the end was especially well received – and quite a few purchases were made…

We then headed off to the Manvieu Bocage restaurant where we were joined by some more members.

Seventeen of us enjoyed a delicious lunch there before we parted company with one group off to visit the Guy Degrenne factory and the other, plus 1 dog, went for a walk around Lake Dathee.

The weather was kind to the walkers and the walk was most enjoyable. One couple took advantage of the water and went out on a pedalo – great for working off some of the lunch! Ugo was in dog heaven as he explored a new environment.

The other group – seven of us – headed off to the Guy Degrenne factory for a fascinating tour – incredible to see how labour-intensive it is to make their cutlery. At the end of the tour we each received a free butter knife and a 10% discount voucher for their shop. Needless to say some of us couldn’t possibly ignore the opportunity to venture there afterwards for a look around!

All in all, a very busy, but very enjoyable, day, and the inability of the SAT NAV to pinpoint some of the places only added to the fun…
